Don't Get Hooked by the "Suite" Scam! (Fake Hotel Confirmations)
This holiday season, keep an eye out for a common phishing attempt disguised as a hotel booking confirmation.
The scam begins with an email demanding you confirm your reservation within 24 hours via a provided link to avoid cancellation. This creates an urgent situation designed to make you act quickly. If you select the link, you are taken to a fake confirmation webpage created by cyber criminals. This fraudulent page then instructs you to enter your credit card number to "secure" the booking. Instead of confirming your hotel, you are simply giving your payment details directly to scammers.
How to Stay Safe
- Resist Urgency: Scammers rely on pressure tactics. Always pause and think before you take action on a tight deadline.
- Check Payment Logic: Legitimate travel sites collect payment details when you book, not usually afterward through confirmation emails.
- Verify Directly: Never click the link in a suspicious email. Go to the official website or mobile app and verify your booking confirmation there.
